Church of St Cwrdaf
Llanwrda, Carmarthenshire
Diocese: Tyddewi/St Davids
OS Grid Ref.: SN71263195
Lat/Lng: 51.9710661296,-3.87552134763
Church dedicated to Cwrdaf, who was rendered as Cwrda by Browne Willis in the eighteenth century.
The mutation that follows llan- would give the name of the saint as Gwrdaf or Gwrda rather than Cwrdaf. Cwrdaf has been equated with Cawrdaf, but the link between Cawrdaf and the church must be regarded as tenuous at best. The name Gwrda may have arisen from the Welsh gwr da: the church of the good, or holy, man.
