Both Browne Willis and A.W. Wade-Evans agree on the dedication of the church to Brynach. Evidence for a holy well to the east of the church, probably dedicated to Brynach, and the name of its location, supports the local association with the saint from the late sixteenth century. A legend explaining the name Llanboidy as Llan-y-beudy (Church of the cowhouse) has also linked Brynach to the locality.
