The place is recorded as Glyn, a chapelry of Defynnog, in Samuel Lewis' A Topographical Dictionary of Wales.
A chapel dedicated to Illtud, situated close to the Roman road, was attested here in the eighteenth century. A prehistoric monument near the supposed site of the church is called Bedd Gwyl Illtyd.
