St David's Chapel was built as part of the Carmarthenshire, Cardigan and Pembrokeshire County Asylum (1865) in 1884⁠–9, the work carried out by staff and patients. The asylum became known as St David's Hospital, the grounds of which are now known as Parc Dewi Sant (St David's Park).
