St David's Chapel was built as part of the Carmarthenshire, Cardigan and Pembrokeshire County Asylum (1865) in 1884–9, the work carried out by staff and patients. The asylum became known as St David's Hospital, the grounds of which are now known as Parc Dewi Sant (St David's Park).
