Place-name recorded in the Book of Llandaff in the twelfth century, although its location is uncertain.

It was previously thought to have equated with St Bride's Netherwent, although this seems unlikely and it was perhaps in the vicinity of Caldicot, and Bridget may have been an earlier patron of the church now dedicated to Mary.
