Browne Willis gives the patron of the church as Michael, although the patron is more often cited as Cathen. The place-name Langathen is cited in 1318, and the name of the commote, Catheiniog, contains the same personal name. A.W. Wade-Evans also claimed that a Capel Cadvan was located in the parish church.
