Both Browne Willis and A.W. Wade-Evans agree on the dedication of the church, although Ecton's Thesaurus Rerum Ecclesiasticarum gives the dedication as All Saints. The dedication to Cadfan is supported in various forms of the place-name going back to the mid-thirteenth century. There is no reference to Llangadfan in the long twelfth-century praise poem to Cadfan by Llywelyn Fardd.
