Church of St Cyngar
Llangefni, Anglesey
Diocese: Bangor/Bangor
OS Grid Ref.: SH45817593
Lat/Lng: 53.2579052673,-4.31292414727
Nineteenth-century church which replaced a medieval building.
Both Browne Willis and A.W. Wade-Evans agree on the dedication of the church to Cyngar, and evidence from the late fifteenth and sixteenth century seems to confirm this. However, the first edition six-inch OS map (1888) shows the church as dedicated to Mary. The name Llangefni dates back to the thirteenth century and is derived from the name of the river that flows through the town and close to the church.More information
