A reference to the church of around 1566 gives the church a joint dedication to both Mary and Cynidr.

The church is recorded as dedicated to Cynidr as early as 1404, and again in the sixteenth century, when Mary was also recorded as the patron of the church. Browne Willis, in the eighteenth century, gives Mary, which remains in use today.
